AB -
Abstract: The computerization of library services increasingly leads to concern with the collection and processing of users' personal data. This paper aims to analyze the application of Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) to libraries, especially legal ones. It’s addressed the applicable criteria of the new law to the daily routine of the library service and the possible liability existing in its non-compliance. Methodologically, this is a qualitative analysis with a legislative investigation of the LGPD and the subject in the European Union and other regions, which serve as example to Brazil. As a conclusion, the processing of data by libraries falls within what the LGPD directs to the public sector and that concern about how data is collected, the purpose for which it will be used, the security of the systems on which it will be stored are necessary concerns to guarantee privacy in Brazilian libraries and compliance with the new national regulatory framework on the subject.
